Documented over a period of five years, the bus stop signs in this series were found dotted around various areas of Cape Town. Attracted to the fading signage, Yudelman began exploring the routes commonly used by daily commuters to and from work and home - most of the passengers predominately residing in communities located on the outskirts of the city. LIFE UNDER DEMOCRACY
'Life under Democracy' was the recipient of the inaugural Ernest Cole Award - the country’s most prestigious prize for documentary photography. Initiated by David Goldblatt and managed by the University of Cape Town, the award honors the late Ernest Cole, an important historical figure in South African photography. [ view ]

‘In a City’ is a visual transcription portraying shades of emotional architecture in an active metropolis. The images are composites of building densities, and inhabitants originating from a myriad of cultural and environmental backgrounds. [ view ]
I AM...
This series pursues a more personal account of the individuals who apply for work on public notice boards. These community-advertising spaces are found in busy convenience stores and supermarkets across South Africa, where they seldom receive a second glance from most consumers. [ view ]

SUBURBS IN PARADISE
During intense social and political turmoil in South Africa in the 1980's, Yudelman worked as a photojournalist for the Star Newspaper. This personal project “Suburbs in Paradise”. was photographed in and around the suburbs of Johannesburg. [ view ]

COLLABORATION
One of the year 2000’s most memorable exhibitions was ‘One’, a collaborative venture between Arlene Amaler-Raviv and Dale Yudelman at the Association for the Visual Arts. This widely acclaimed show attracted glowing encomiums partly because it provided such an extraordinary revelation of the pair’s flair for potent image making. [ view ]

LOUIS YUDELMAN
Johannesburg born, Louis Yudelman, FPSSA, has been active in photography for seventy years. Starting out with
monochrome in the 1950’s, this medium has remained his favourite to this day. His work has been exhibited in solo and group shows and has received numerous accolades, including two gold medals at the prestigious London Salon. [ view ]
